[edit] Feel free to mess with this
I figured it was about time to just create this thing and see how it works in the wild. There have been several mentions and even another early template by Frontway.
- Feel free to make changes and to start tagging a little in the wild.
- If all is working well after testing for a while, UberBot could apply it automatically to songs that contain the Seven_dirty_words.
- I didn't put the linebreaks in which were in the other version just because I think that would destroy the experience of the site for many users once the template was actually used frequently. However, hiding the content from those who don't want to see it is a very good idea, possibly we should make a plugin that detects parental advisory pages and then presents the user with a one-time prompt (remembered in a cookie, changable later) of whether they wish to see Parental Advisory lyrics initially or not, and then do the blocking based on that.
- Also, does anyone have a preference between the black logo and the red? I had forgotten Frontway had one in red already until after I made the template, oops!

[edit] Deprecated?
In the list of templates, I found Template:Parental Advisory listed instead of this one. Is this one deprecated? Should we be changing pages that use this template to use the other one? --LarryGilbert 17:09, 23 May 2008 (EDT)
- Well... they are different. This one doesn't push the content down to prevent accidental exposure for those who want to avoid it. I for one can't imagine why anyone would want to see this logo and not have the offending content moved down screen. I think we should try for a consensus first, but then perhaps make this a redirect to the bigger, red one. Thought? --Åqúàŧĩkī - É - Ŧ 19:49, 24 May 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Restructuring
I reformatted this template to match the other ones that occupy the upper-right corner of the lyrics box (i.e. {{Wikipedia}}, {{B-Hits}}). Since it's a big change, I figured I'd post here first. My new version can be found here. I left out making it include pages in categories just so it wouldn't include my test pages. To see how the old and new pages compare, take a look at this demonstration.
The new layout includes a link to the category. Yes, I know it's at the bottom of the page as well, but I figured that this made it more accessible, like the links in userboxes. Also, I think "Parental Advisory" could link to some future policy or help page, or maybe a master category - Category:Parental Advisory? This could contain the subcategories (like Category:Parental Advisory/Explicit Lyrics), which are currently not linked together. It could also potentially include any songs not listed using the approved reasons, which would otherwise not appear in any of the official groups. What do you think? ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› @21:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
EDIT: I also propose that {{Parental Advisory}} be moved here. Until there's some kind of system for keeping track of user preferences, a huge red box and a lot of scrolling are just going to frustrate people and detract from the overall perception of quality. ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› @21:04, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- I like your letterbox edition. I see no problem with going ahead and changing that. However, given the nature of disagreement over these templates in the past, I think we ought to start LyricWiki:Parental Advisory before we change {{Parental Advisory}}, so the powers-at-be can come up with a policy for the two uses. --Aquatiki - T - E 22:46, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- I also very much like your revamped version team a and agree that a decision should be made to use one or the other. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 00:17, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- What would it take to set up the LyricWiki:Parental Advisory page? I imagine that there might need to be some discussion over what the policy might be, but I don't know who would do it or where. Does this page need to be started from scratch as an official policy, or can it start as an unofficial discussion / advocacy group type page? ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› @22:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll leave it to Aqua to advise on that team a, but in the interim can I ask you to remove the example you have provided for "Offensive themes" please. For in itself it could offend. (I don't think it really needs an explanation anyway). Thanks. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 23:30, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would agree with you. For the categories, I used the examples that were already on the page, which is why some of the categories listed don't have explanations. I removed the examples (what you said could apply to "Morbid Themes" as well).
I think these categories were added because they are the reasons that music gets labeled with the "Parental Advisory" warning. However, as only one of them is used, and which category to add a page to could be difficult because many could apply (and it doesn't really affect the user who is looking at the page), I think they should probably be removed altogether. Then again, if this template is used on all applicable songs, that could be a very long list...♠team a ‹talk•ctrb›- Thanks team a! Much appreciated! ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 01:02, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
