A Favor?
Would you mind doing me a huuuuge favor the next time you visit the Template:Artist page? Could you update the instructions there a little bit? I figure since you've been tinkering with it that you probably know it the best, so I figured 'Go to the source!' The example given is old and doesn't show the formatting for all the new cool stuff that's been added. Thanks a million! Kiefer talk contribs admin 00:02, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Other Songs
KingNee..should Other Songs have album pages? Only I'm seeing a lot of them on the Special:Shortpages list and I'm a little confused by this. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 14:47, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
- It's a product of Janitor's cleanup job. Someone else felt they were not necessary, and removed the link without deleting the page. Do they belong on the page, or should they deleted? That's up to you.
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 15:09, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
- Sorry but I don't think I explained myself well. What I meant was all the 'Other Songs' headings on the artists pages that I have worked on have not had a link to separately created 'album' pages. All the songs under the heading 'Other Songs' have simply linked directly to the individual song pages, until, of course, allocated to an actual album. However, on the short pages list, I see a lot of album pages which have been created solely for 'Other Songs'. Whilst this seems to me to be wrong, (since 1) Other Songs is not an album and 2) the songs should/could all be allocated which would effectively mean time and resources being wasted creating an album page for 'Other Songs'), it did occur to me that maybe I should in fact be creating album pages for all the 'Other Songs' lists I come across...
- Seeing as it's Monday (which means it's Redxx's day to bug KingNee
), another thing I would like to ask, albeit unrelated, is about merging. Is 'merging' simply another word for moving? I ask because I cannot find any information on how to 'merge'. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 18:18, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

- The 'Other Songs' pages are leftovers from when the site was started, the default now is to not make these pages (and any artist page that does have a link gets unlinked by every script I have written). These pages end up on Special:Lonelypages and get deleted.
- Merge is a term that is used, for instance, when we have two pages for one artist and there may be multiple pages for a single song. Merging in this repect means consolidating the several pages into a single one by using redirects and moves as needed.

Orphaned Pages
Could you explain two things to me:
- Why do some artists/song pages with accents, etc. in their name appear as "Orphaned pages" when there's nothing actually wrong with their page?
- Why doesn't our Janitor bot allocate all orphaned songs to artists page Other Songs list where these exist (Again I can't see anything wrong with the song pages to which I am referring) What's his problem (lol)? ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 22:56, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
- If I am thinking of what I think you're thinking, then this is related to listings like Micheal Bubl? and Opus D?e, correct? That is another remnant of an old version of LyricWiki. It's very similar to that wonky Black Sabbath page, and luckily it has since been fixed. The long and short is that those are not removable right now. If I am still misunderstanding, then feel free to try again (it is monday, I am a little slow).
- On that second point: do you mean there are orphaned pages that are not re-added, or what? If you could supply an example or two, I'd get a better idea
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 01:31, 10 June 2008 (EDT)
- Examples of pages on 'Orphaned Pages' list - Why are all these deemed 'orphans'?
- Artists with accents in their name, etc. :
- Where artist page and 'Other Songs' section exists but song has not been added by the bot to 'Other Songs' list:
- And this was a song page I dealt with earlier that was on the Orphans list [1] which I'd also like to understand. I mean it's one thing a bot uploading incorrectly named pages, but it's another if we've got users using their own programs to do it, as would seem to be the case here.
- ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 05:27, 14 June 2008 (EDT)
- The first half is the same as I mentioned. I must ask, though, do they show up on the orphan page looking normal? On my computer, and all computers I've used, it shows as a question mark replacing the accented characters.
- The second half is not so easy. I have no explanation as to why they are not, as they should be. There is a subtle known error with wikimedia databases where the information related to a page can fall behind. If I ever find a page that seems to have done so, I just hit 'edit' and 'save'. 90% of the time it fixes whatever was strange about the page.
- Hope that helps!
- Also: I fixed the Aaliyah song, and will try to fix the other, we shall see what happens. Peace.
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 00:36, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
- K, in answer to your question, yes the artists names do appear on the orphan list with question marks (although on the actual artist page the name displays correctly). This raises the further question: why don't all Agnetha's related pages, e.g. song/album also appear on orphan list? Surely if the softwear has a problem with accented characters, these should also appear on the list?
- And what are your thoughts on this "...bot uploading incorrectly named pages, but it's another if we've got users using their own programs to do it..."? ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 22:24, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
- Agnetha's songs aren't on orphaned pages because in the time that the encoding caused an error, those songs were never orphaned. At some point in LW's history, Agnetha's artist page was orphaned, and when it was fixed, the bug stayed around. I will say that I am very glad that those songs aren't permanently stuck, as that would be one heck of a mess. (btw, softwear? Are we talking about Wikimedia, or Fruit of the Loom? :D )

Is there an itunes link in artist template? Scrap that. There is now. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 22:04, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
asin..
There is asin for album on album page to direct users to album. I have no problem with that. But the asin in Song footer, I confess I'm a tad confused by, since it would seem to imply, by its very inclusion on song page, that the link is meant to direct users to actual song. When it came to filling this in in the awards template for a song I felt inclined to put "not applicable", but that would of course be likely to be the case for every song, so I'd be grateful for an explanation. Is it for album? And is it incorporated into song page in case the actual album the song is on isn't in our data base? ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 19:53, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
- I do not use asin at all, actually, so I am not sure what to tell you. However, since this page ranking thing has started, "optional" has almost become "required" for a page to rank well and so I am not sure where to go on that one. I would ask Aquatiki about his opinion. Sorry I couldn't supply more info.

- Song asin does have some sense - look for ex. this link. The problem is that {{SongFooter-Amazon/Sandbox}} ignores asin parameter. To be strict, it doesn't ignore asin at all, but uses it only as flag to switching Amazon info, using only artist & album names in link.--Senvaikis (talk) 01:36, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
- Yes Senv I agree, it doesn't seem to be set up correctly, for if you click on song name it takes you to the album, but if you click on album name it takes you to song!! Just needs someone to switch links around I would say. Foo Fighters:Times Like These ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 05:48, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

Discogs parameter..and other stuff...
Sorry to bother you KingNee, but I would be grateful if, when you got a spare minute, you could look at this post. Thank you. ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 09:45, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
- Sorry KingNee but I think part of my question on the above got overlooked (as happens ..lol) My question being - where is the Discogs info? Because |discogs = doesn't work and I thought there was a parameter like musicbrainz, iTunes, etc. for when you knew the id.
And btw you can add Sandbot to your list of bots now ;) Needless to say, if she can help you with something in particular just leave me a message and I'll do my best to try and get her to co-operate (she's a bit slow atm and very temperamental) ♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪Talk 15:11, 10 August 2008 (EDT)- Good call, I had forgotten. OK, things are getting interesting for me, and more so by the day. At the end of this week I will be moving. I won't be very LW active for a time (its indeterminate just how long that is), and I just wanted to make sure that was known, beforehand.
