Hi! Thanks for the reply. May I impose on you to change it until i get the hang of things please? Knowing me I'll probley crash the site :) Many thanks, Lion King 07:01, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for the reply - yeah, It was recorded 11 July 1967 and I take it that December was the US release date. The UK release date was March 1968 (CBS 63252) when it went in at #1 and stayed there for 10 weeks. They obviously delayed the UK release - it was more than likely a ploy to sell lots of Columbia label import copies in the UK first! It's a good job I wasn't able to change it eh? Thanks for your time. Cheers, Lion King 20:07, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
No problem, that's the beauty of the Wiki system. Even if you had changed it, it would be piece of cake to change it back :)
Keep up the good work and feel free to 'bother' me any time :) --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 03:09, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

Goeie dag, Mischko! Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to see that this wiki is friendly. Wikipedia (where I spend much of my time...) gets quite oppressive at times... Thanks, and happy editing! Geniet jou dag! Goldfritter 15:33, 19 June 2007 (EDT)

Official Lyrics/What I do

Yeah so you read my little note. I type from the booklet, but then I change lyrics depending on what's sung (screams, oohhs/ahhs, additional unnoted things, repeated stanzas...).--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:07, 20 June 2007 (EDT)

Different Versions now have same lyrics

Hi, I wonder can you please tell me why after I corrected the lyrics to Dylan's Girl Of The North Country on Nashville Skyline, the lyrics are now the same as the version on The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The two versions are vastly different to each other. Cheers, Lion King 14:22, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

That's because it's the same page. The link in both the album listings links to the same song page. You can either make a new song page and change one of the links to point to it, or you can put them both on the existing page (for example, next to or below each other). --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 04:25, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

A question for you

While looking some information up on Wikipedia, I realized that there is a way to very easily look up information about a musician on from Lyricwiki to Wikipedia (slap the { {Wikipedia} }
{{{project}}}
Wikipedia has an article on
tag up there and you're off). But to my knowledge there is no { {Lyricwiki} } tag to go the other direction (or at least no one uses it). So I ask you: Is there a good way of making Lyricwiki accessible for people on Wikipedia so the love goes both ways?

Kingnee1114lyrics 23:05, 22 July 2007 (EDT)

We had a tag at one time over at Wikipedia, but it was removed because it "implied that LyricWiki was a project of Wikimedia". I don't think it would be a good idea to try again, especially without the permission of Wikipedia. I think is is okay, however, to stick us in the external links section.

More Questions

I feel a little silly asking so many questions, but I swear, I will be done soon.
1. With the {{Album Art}} tag, is there a way to make the add alternate text?
{{Album Art|Artist - Song.jpg Words}} does not work and
{{Album Art|Artist - Song.jpg|Words}} does not either.
Is there a way?
2. Can we send out the Uberbot again? Maybe feed it some information and say sic 'em?
Kingnee1114lyrics 20:30, 27 July 2007 (EDT)

1. I don't think that the template currently accepts another parameter, I'll go fix it.
2. You would have to talk to Sean about Uberbot. I may get around to writing that type of functionality for Janitor. Maybe.
- teknomunk (talk,E,) 22:56, 27 July 2007 (EDT)
Greats. Let me know what you do with that. Kingnee1114lyrics 23:17, 27 July 2007 (EDT)

Thanks and Suggestion

Thanks, I'll start reviewing lyrics for music I own and removing tags, I've already been editing. Also, I am seeing a lot of pages that do not have the album info in the {{song}} tag, a bot might be useful, is there a bot community that one makes requests of? Intelligence3 18:40, 29 July 2007 (EDT)

Not really, perhaps you can ask User:Janitor, but I think fetching album info automatically is hard. Thanks for the work you have been and will be doing! --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 02:41, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
If I were to do it, and I kind of already was thinking of doing it, then I would use the 'What Links Here' to get the album(s) the song is on. I think that the most difficult part making sure that all the songs that need to be processed, get processed. When I have time, I'll look into it.

Yet Another Question

I was working with Sigur Ros (an Icelandic band) and I wanted to split the lyric space vertically so that I could have the Icelandic lyrics and then the English translation beside it. So far, my HTML knowledge has failed me, so any help would count. Kingnee1114lyrics 21:38, 17 August 2007 (EDT)

Deletion? Redirect? Neither? Both?

Well, as we all know, Dr. Jan Itor swept through and made orphaned songs all line up in Other Songs of their artist's page. I happily went about posting deletion notices for several, several songs, to later find out they changed to redirects. So my question would be: when are deletions the way to go? The reason I ask is that I simply want to do things right the first time, the less I bother someone else, the better.
Kingnee1114lyrics 21:35, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

Well, that was an interesting rename. But back on topic. If the name is close to the correct one, it is better if it is a redirect. Things like encoding problems and spam are deleted without any hesitation. The other cases are less clear cut. But as far as I know, there is no clear-cut policy on whether a page should be deleted or should be a redirect. Hopefully I will be finished with the automated part of fixing the orphaned pages soon (within the week).
And to Kiefer, do you think that I should put a note on the front page about what I am doing?
- teknomunk (talk,E,) 22:23, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
Sorry, it is a reference to the TV show Scrubs. I am a little punch-drunk today Kingnee1114lyrics 22:31, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
No problem, I just hadn't seen it before.
- teknomunk (talk,E,) 22:36, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
I believe that usually, a redirect is made when the name is likely to be searched under. For example, both Simon and Garfunkel and Simon & Garfunkel are very likely to be typed in by a user, though the correct name according to LW:PN is Simon And Garfunkel. But I would propose a page like Paul Simon And Art Garfunkel to be deleted, since nobody will search for it because the couple is known as "Simon & Garfunkel". Just my two pennies. --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 06:44, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

Other songs High School Musical

I noticed that you removed several songs from the 'Other Songs' section of High School Musical. We are currently trying to clean out our Orphan pages list by attributing all songs to the correct artist. Before removing a song from an 'Other Songs' list, please make sure that one of the following is done:

  1. The song is added to an album listing
  2. The page is redirected to the correctly-formatted page name, if such a page exists. (See LW:PN)
  3. The page is moved to the correctly-formatted page name. (If one does not already exist.)
  4. The page has a deletion request (deletion request) placed at the top of the page.

If one of these procedures does not take place, then the songs will just be re-added to the Other Songs list by the bot that is helping us in this effort.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, on my talk page, or in the community portal. --Kiefer Esperanza Talk! 06:29, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

As stated in the edit summary, the songs were also listed under their respective albums. But thanks for the message. --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 05:29, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
Actually, I see you were right and I didn't look carefully. They were just redirects from "High School Musical" to "High School Musical Cast" songs. Since no such redirects exists for other songs (just the artist page) and IMO shouldn't exist, I went ahead and deleted them as well. --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 05:35, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
What...you think I wouldn't check before I slapped a form letter on an IP user? :- ] "High School Musical" vs. "High School Musical Cast" - easy to confuse. They should have been fixed when I originally went around the whole HSM mess cleaning things up. But I obviously orphaned a couple of songs. Ah well. Trust me, I go a little wiki-confused from time to time. *blink* *BLINK* "Time to quit - the pages are getting blurry!" --Kiefer Esperanza Talk! 15:37, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
I know what you mean, sometimes I also lose track of which changes I already made and which still were to be done. And I also added to your confusion by not checking if I was logged in. I also noticed only after viewing several HSM pages that there was actually "Cast" in the page title. As long as you don't quit permanently, it's no problem :) --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 03:56, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

À vs. A

you're right, both ("A l'enterrement" and "À l'enterrement") are accepted and used but "À l'enterrement" is of course more correct and better: so we have to use it over here, for the quality of the databank in the future... the most important aspect is the reaction of the search engine (which is not that good, especially with capitals): when you put "A l'enterrement", the search engine finds "À l'enterrement", that's what we want Krn02 06:18, 8 October 2007 (EDT)

remark

Hi, Mischko, I see you've removed {{Help}} template from my talk. Thanks, I was going already to do it myself, just one thing hold me of that - here's quote from Help:

Once the problem has been solved to your satisfaction, please remove this template.

Thanks a bunch to teknomunk, who answered to a second part of my question, but I hope you noticed before editing that nobody answered at least satisfactionary to my main question - it wasn't answered at all. Anyway you are right - if question remains unanswered for a such long time, there's no sence to keep it open, regardless of was it answered or not. Just it's lightly sad to realize that I was too optimistic overestimating the spirit of goodwill in this community.

can you please explain me this mystery LyricWiki talk:Community Portal/Problems/Web Site Support# help asked for wiki tricks... thanks Krn02 08:21, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

Concerning Bj?rk

Something that I had noticed about the lonely pages is that certain artist appear, no matter how many other pages are linked to them, and also, in the case of Bjork and others, that the Other Songs page remains visible, despite being deleted. You click on the link, and there is nothing there.
And on a completely different note, there are some accounts that use an autogenerator for lyrics, and I was wondering if anybody knew where to get a program like that. (I mean sure, I could try to program something myself, but that has only ever ended in tears). The reason I ask, is that there are a few artists with fairly large discographies that are either not present at all, or very limited. By hand would not be the most effective.
If anybody has some info on either one of those, let me know
King_Nee1114lyrics 18:49, 30 October 2007 (EDT)

For the first one, I'm puzzled. The What links here page of the deleted Other Songs still shows that there is a link from Björk but I cannot find it. Perhaps it is cached and needs to be rebuilt first?
As for lyric grabbing bots, check out ÜberBot. If you have any sites you want him to scroll, perhaps you can leave a message there.
Sorry that I can not be more helpful here. --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 16:17, 31 October 2007 (EDT)

Bryan Adams

Heya!

Yeah, I own all his albums so I'm slowly going through them all, editing and being a grammar freak. It's a shame people are too lazy to do it to start with!

There are a few songs in the 'Other Languages' part I know he has sung, including 'Io Vivo In Te' and 'Crei Morir E Ir Al Cielo' - the first being in Italian, the second Spanish (I beleive.) These are remakes of the songs 'I'm Ready' and 'Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven.' I have these on my playlist as randoms, but I have no idea where they are from, when he sung them and if said songs should even bother being there.

I'll have a dig around for the rest of the international versions listed to see if they are actually genuine. I'll also edit the ones I know to be such.

Cheers!

Robbie.

Hi. Thank you so much, it's always a pleasure to see an artist page improve step by step, especially when it has become so messy because of the bot scraping lyrics from all over the net. Though I'm low on time and not really a Bryan Adams die-hard, I'll try to help you as much as I can. If you need help, just shout or leave a message here. --15:36, 8 January 2008 (EST)

foxytunes

For a while now, a web extension called Foxytunes had a widget that used LyricWiki's site for lyrics (which is actually the way that I found my way here, a long time ago). In the last week, they have removed it, cutting us off from a lot of people. Assuming we do want our site on Foxytunes, I suggest that anyone who has Foxytunes to tell them that it's unfair. They seem to have replaced our page with Yahoo Lyrics, which hasn't worked for any songs that I tried to find (ironic), and I've seen Yahoo make some other great apps into crapheaps.

Sandbox

Hiya, Just wondering... what's in your sandbox? For some reason the site hangs when trying to load it. If we can figure out what's so special about that page, that might shed some light on what all of the long-running processes are (those are what have been causing the short outages over the last couple of days).

Thanks,
-Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 13:32, 18 June 2008 (EDT)

Additional note: I've looked in the database at the actual wiki-text that's on the page, but there's a lot of it and none of it strikes me as being code that would possibly cause the site to hang (except maybe the Last.FM badges?) Is there a specific part that you added and noticed it behaving strangely right afterward, or is this long-loading completely new?
Thanks,
-Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 16:32, 18 June 2008 (EDT)
Howdy,
I think I've figured out what the problem is on that page. It has something to do with our extensions for XML feeds I think. There is a PersonalLastFM template on that page and I'm pretty sure something changed which makes that not work anymore.

Auto-Patrol

Greetings and Salutations, Mischko! I come to your talk page to beg for a boon! (I don't know why I'm speaking "medieval" - I'm getting off of being sick with a cold, so I'll blame that.) Could you possibly mark your edits as auto-patrolled? All the other knights...uh, kids...uh, admins...are doing it. Click on Preferences->Editing->Mark edits I make as patrolled. That way when we sort through the Recent Changes by eliminating patrolled edits, we can automatically eliminate changes made by admins. Thanks! (I'll see what I can do about the after-sickness euphoria.)    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   12:51, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Hey I was already wondering when to expect your message. I read the messages in User talk:Aquatiki but loading the edit page to reply took so long I decided to have dinner first. When I returned, your most kind message was awaiting me. I am not a Wikipedian, so I have no idea what patrolled edits are (the links have been there for as long as I can remember, but I never bothered to find out what they did :)). I'll really have to read up on them some time :) Anyway I've ticked the box so it should be fine. Thanks for leaving the message. I hope you get well soon, because speaking "medieval" isn't really useful (in fact, it hasn't been fashionable for about - oh - about 1500 years). On the other hand, there are worse diseases to suffer from than medieval speak and after-sickness euphoria :)
--Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 14:20, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
PS. Nothing has gone awry with my adminship status. I suppose that only admins can check the box though (as far as I understand, that's the whole point :)) and I hardly ever changed my preferences, so probably I didn't tick it after becoming admin. I think marking patrolled edits (or whatever the terminology is) only started recently?
Yeah, the newbies are chicken.  :-] Us old-timers can still intimidate, I guess. Thanks for the update, though. It does make things easier to wade through on the Recent Changes list. Thank goodness those two (Redxx & Aquatiki) auto-patrol, otherwise the list would be twice as long most days!
Auto-patrol has always been around, I think, but some of us really started using it after we were getting slammed by spammers. We just got used to marking checked pages as patrolled and auto-patrolling our own edits just made sense. The newbies like it, too.
My after-sickness euphoria has been replaced by the occasional after-sickness chest-cough/clearing, which isn't fun and gives me a headache. Plus, I live in Florida, where Fay is due to go over tomorrow. Currently I'm not in the direct line of fire, but no school for the young'un tomorrow! Power permitting, I'll be on tomorrow, however!    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   21:22, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

My Kitties

Just wanted to thank you for doing link in my Cat Userbox. It'd be nice to link to photo of them (I've got three, Mummy and two offspring, boy and girl) don't tell anyone but I call them my babies,...Mmm...*thinking*  ЯєdxxTalk 21:28, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, I added some links to all those userboxes which didn't have a link yet, mainly because I couldn't remember all the category names (I mean: Category:Uses who know what 6 multiplied by 9 really is., or something like that, including a final period -- who can remember that?). So the links in the userbox allowed me to easily check out the list of users who are also using it.
As for your litter box, I have added an image parameter. So you should be able to write something like {{UBX:Cats|image=babies.png}} and get the specified image. If you leave out the parameter, the box looks like it was. I haven't tested it though, so just let me know if anything goes terribly wrong (that's the advantage of templates which are barely used: if you mess them up, it won't screw a lot of pages nor lag the server :)).
Have fun :) --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 04:09, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
I see you know your stuff. I'm a non techie with a bot. Rfl. Yes I know, the two things don't exactly go together, do they? But I'm kinda weird like that ;) Thanks again Mischko. Yes categories..indeed. The user who changed all that has been spoken to and I think Kiefer has made some headway to reverting it back to the way it was, since those with an opinion seem to agree that the way it was set up by Aqua was fine and suits our needs at the present time. I think that all that needs doing now is to change the Userbox prefix back to UBX (instead of what they were changed to, i.e. Template/etc.). I could probably do it, but it's in a bit of a muddle now so I think I'll leave it to Aqua or Kiefer ;)  ЯєdxxTalk 12:11, 21 August 2008 (EDT)

Help

No. I don't need it....well actually there's many that might disagree with that ;).

Ok. I'm non techie as I say, but I do have my uses. One of which is that I am extremely helpful (hee hee). As such I like to help other admin out on with projects they got going on, particularly the tedious, time consuming, monotonous ones we all know and love (lol). This being so, I often find myself, in the early hours of the morning, helping KingNee out with Special Pages, categories, orphans, double redirects, etc. I recently completed categorising the uncategorised pages, a project that he started but was unable to complete due to moving, which basically meant manually applying footers to over 2000 song pages. No mean feat, I don't mind telling you!! I have also done missing fLetter. Since KingNee's disappearance however I have adopted SandBot and she helps me a great deal with all these time consuming tasks. Anyhow, me and old SandBot happened to notice that you also take a keen interest in Special Pages, since this is listed in your to do list. As such SandBot thought that perhaps we could assist you in this by doing some of the donkey work. In fact we have already started (English (en) to English, etc. (took about 10 minutes for over 110 pages)

Ok, now I know this is probably going to sound totally stupid, but since this is connected to the above, could you please explain to me why albums such as A Tribute To Abba (2001) is categorised as an "orphaned" page (i.e. there are never any artist pages for various artist compilations, so are all compilations of this type "orphans" and included in this category?

The first sentence doesn't make sense... you don't need what? Anyway, I would be the last person to deny your helpfulness here :). And of course, I would also be stupid to decline your help. I haven't really looked into it yet, so I'll have to dig through the categories and see if I can come up with some bot-worthy jobs :)
As for the orphaned pages, I think a page is orphaned when there are no pages linking to it. Since you just made a link to that Abba album, I think it has disappeared from the category, but if you click "What links here" in the toolbox on that page, you'll see that there is no link from any other page (in this case, because there is no unambiguous artist page it should belong to).
What I am wondering about, while typing all this is: would inclusion in a category count as an inter-page link? Because if not, then all the artist pages would be in the Orphaned pages category. On the other hand, if so, then it would be relatively easy to remove them (just add them to a category).
I'll look into it one of those days, when I get bored with my other work again :) --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 10:21, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
"The first sentence doesn't make sense"...subject for post = Help ;). Yes, no hurry on any of this, me and SandBot will continue going through these Special pages anyway. I really just wanted you to know that we are willing to help if you had something particular in mind, or if you felt a certain category needed prioritising.
So I'm right then? All album pages with no artist prefix are included in orphan category?. Well that certainly seems like a problem that needs addressing to me, since of course this disguises the real problem pages. As such, I hope that when you get round to it, your idea will work.  ЯєdxxTalk 11:29, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, no-artist compilations/soundtracks are likely in the Orphaned category, although some are linked to on Artist pages, due to songs on the compilation being included in Other Songs lists or "Songs from Compilations and Soundtracks" lists with a note as to their origin (that hopefully has a link to the actual album). We do need a way to put them into Category:Multiple Artist Albums or some-such thing.    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   12:41, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
I believe many of these albums probably are in those categories already. It's getting them not to appear on orphan list when the page isn't linked to from another page that's causing the problem. For now though I guess we shall just have to continue making manual links :(  ЯєdxxTalk 19:53, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
Mischko, can I delete each language on that page as I complete them?  ЯєdxxTalk 16:22, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
Yes of course. I already contemplated making a subsection Done, but I don't really see a reason to keep them. So go ahead and delete them. I really appreciate your doing the dirty work here :) Thanks! --Mischko Talk to me Esperanza Member 12:04, 24 August 2008 (EDT)

SongFooter

Thanks for adding the wikipedia parameter - it works splendidly! -- 6 times 9 09:25, 26 August 2008 (EDT)

Glad it works. Of course I was confident that it would ;) I couldn't really test it though, because as soon as I pressed Save, the site went very slow. So I'm afraid I haven't contributed to decreasing the job queue length :)
So I think I'll save the part where I split the text to Template:SongFooter/Doc and include it on Template:SongFooter for later, hehe.

Drat!! I just left a message about this on your talk page 6 times 9 (I should've looked here first). As the man says - it works splendidly!
The Gold Record
Mischko, I hereby present you with this Gold Record to say thanks a lot for your assistance!!  ЯєdxxTalk 16:35, 26 August 2008 (EDT)

Question to 6 times 9: applauding together with you wiki parameter in song footer, I just wonder why don't you use the same (older) posibility for album? --Senvaikis (talk) 17:34, 26 August 2008 (EDT)
Actually, I was going to. (Still am.) I just did the songs quickly to try out this new shiny toy, I didn't have time to do more than that. (I'm also not the most methodical of people...) -- 6 times 9 17:48, 26 August 2008 (EDT)
