[edit] Dethklok

Hi PatPeter! Just wanted to discuss your redirect on the Dethklok album, only you redirected the album to an empty page. If you can obtain the correct details for this album, set up a new page and redirect it to that. Also, all albums need to be listed on the artist page too. If you need a hand with anything leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again for your contributions. Happy editing!  ЯєdxxTalk 23:14, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

Re: Metalocalypse Soundtrack, I have posted a reply on my talk page. I was having a "bad hair day", so if there is anything I haven't explained well enough in my ramblings, just leave another message for me there. And btw very funny Wikipedia ЯєdxxTalk 06:55, 25 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit] One Goal Met

You might think about letting me delete User:PatPeter/Index/Userboxes/ltL because ... it's been done! Sean changed the subtitle! Score one for our advocacy! --Aquatiki - T - E 08:18, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Userboxes

Hi PatPeter, I noticed you'd been playing around with the userboxes but I noticed a few things that aren't right, so I thought I'd bring them to your attention as you seem to know more about these things than me. Also if you don't mind me saying, it seems very confusing what you've done, because instead of all the userboxes being in the one place, as they should be (see below) and where they could easily be found, now they are all over the show:

Template:Userbox - instructs on the page "for all userboxes, please put in Category:Userbox templates"

Template:Userboxes - informs on the page "Userboxes should all be in Category:Userbox templates"...but now they aren't because you've put some of them (though I don't understand why) in a new category Category:Templatespace userboxes.

Category:Templatespace userboxes - says "This category contains all userboxes that exist in templatespace"..then there's a link which takes you to page showing more userboxes than the eight on the page.

Category:Userbox templates - should contain all the userboxes but now it only lists some.

Template:Userboxes/Admin2 - says on template page that "Using this userbox places you in Category: Administrators"..but you can see that it doesn't. The two admin in that category aren't using that userbox. And the one that is using that template, being me, isn't listed on page.

Allow me to also state my concerns about many of the changes that you have been making. I am concerned that you have been making changes without completely understanding the possible ramifications of those changes and without getting feedback from the long-time users here at LyricWiki. How you may like things organized may not be the best for the site. I'm all for solving problems, but it appears as though some of your changes may be making things more complex and confusing than is necessary. A brief glance-over at some of what you've done leaves me a bit baffled. I have a history in Library and Information Science, and even so it took me quite a bit to figure out what exactly you were doing. From an organizational aspect, keeping things as simple (fewest clicks) and easy-to-use as possible is the way to go.
For instance, informational/policy-related pages (such as the info on Userbox policies) should be filed under "LyricWiki". not "Templates". "Templates" should only be actual templates that users can use. {{Userboxes}} is not a template. So, the Template:Userboxes was correctly placed by Aquatiki at LyricWiki:Userboxes. I have moved it and deleted the redirect (as it is not a template, either).
The subcategories for userboxes (Userspace vs. Templatespace), as has been mentioned, are unnecessary. Perhaps in the future a separation will be necessary, but certainly not yet. (Remember, try to keep it simple. I'm not even sure what the benefit of having "Userspace" userboxes is. All templates should be placed under "Template:".) Having everything listing in one central location is the simplest.
Also, as I saw that Redxx had concerns about Dethklok:Metalocalypse Soundtrack. If this is a bootleg, or unofficial album, then it should be deleted. If it is an internet-only (but official release), then it should stay, but should be moved to Dethklok:Metalocalypse Soundtrack (2006). If any those tracks aren't part of an actual album, but are available in an official and authorized form online, then they should be moved under an "Internet Releases" header on the Dethklok page with a brief explanation as to their origin/source. Since they apparently involve some lyric differences, then the add-on (Internet) or some such can be added to the pagename to differentiate it from the album version on Dethalbum.
Let me finish by saying that the general concept of what you are trying to do would very likely have been given a thunderous round of virtual applause, had you brought up your ideas in the Community Portal and received a little feedback to your ideas. Please be aware that we are a bit different than Wikipedia and other wikis, and getting feedback from the long-time users and the site administrators - many of which have already come to you and voiced their concerns about some of your edits - about such major changes is wise, as we know the hidden pitfalls that you may not be aware of. Bold is one thing, but brazen is another.    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   11:31, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Come back!

Hey PP, 'hope we didn't run you off! I miss the terrifying pace of your edits! I wanted you to that I like your personal userboxes still. I made a mock up of what LyricWiki would look like if we went to slashes, redirects, and Semantic MW. Click the last link to see. Hoping to lure you back. --Aquatiki - T - E 08:23, 22 August 2008 (EDT)

Semantic MediaWiki is an extension to the Wikipedia-type software that lets you treat pages more like objects in computer programming than mere webpages. Pages can have variables with values and the links between pages can be named too. The benefit is that instead of having hand compile list pages, you can simply query the website: Show me all pages in the Category:City with a Population value of >1,000,000. It's way cool! --Aquatiki - T - E 16:34, 24 August 2008 (EDT)
