Dead-end Pages
- I have a script that is sitting around to fix dead-end pages (Full Discussion)
MusicBrainz Template
Hi, I've added a template for MusicBrainz artists and releases. Would be awesome if you could add these to the Artist template respectively the AlbumFooter template. Feel free to edit/change my template - since it was my first wiki template ever, I'm kinda surprised it actually works :> Firehawk 19:01, 16 December 2007 (EST)
Anime - does this look okay?
Hi, teknomunk.
I just did a little fiddling with the anime page Anime:爆裂天使 and added {{Wikipedia}} to it (idea came from 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱). The first try had the box visible on the related song page, but the <noinclude> seems to have done its work. ;) So, if that's okay, shall we add it to the other anime pages as well?
Oh, and a reference to the anime template on the LyricWiki:Japan page might help, too. I had to hunt around a bit to create an anime page... :P
Thanks. --BryghtShadow 04:07, 25 February 2008 (EST)
- That looks fine. There are actually several pages (including the one you referenced) that should be moved over into an Anime: page. I should probably write up some documentation on it, but right now, I can't decide whether to put it under the Japan group page or under the general help.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 10:56, 25 February 2008 (EST)
- I put up a basic page at LyricWiki:Japan/AnimeTemplates. It is currently not linked to anything.

Duplicate songs in 'Other' category
Thank you for your response/s.
OK, just one final question and I promise I'll leave you alone ;) With regards to the duplicate songs (often mis-spelt) displaying under the 'Other' section on artists pages, am I correct in thinking that this is the correct procedure to effect their removal:-
1) create redirect to correct page
2) remove the duplicate entry, by deleting the song entry from the 'Other' category on artist page
Redxx talk 16:12, 26 February 2008 (EST)
- That would be correct.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 17:12, 26 February 2008 (EST)
- Thank you. I've been working in the time since on cleaning up the Daniel Bedingfield page. It's been a bit of a challenge but I think my results indicate that maybe I'm now getting the hang of this (lol). Any critiscm/advice gratefully received however. Redxx talk 22:32, 26 February 2008 (EST)
New Song template
I put a little bit of info about the new parameters for the template, but I'm sure you can spruce things up and perhaps elaborate a bit better than I could. Check it out when/if you get a chance. (I haven't checked to see if the help page for Songs needs to be updated, though, now that I think about it.) Kiefer talk contribs admin 23:14, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Question on orphaned Townes Van Zandt Songs
Can someone tell me what I am missing here? I recently moved 5 Townes Van Zandt songs out of Other Songs and assigned them to albums. The next day the Janitor added those back into other. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snesbitt (talk • contribs) .

Hey teknomunk. I was going through dead-end pages, and there are some that would be to your speciality, I think. You don't have to, but I thought I'd point it out, because you could be more thorough there than I could. Happy editing.
King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 19:54, 5 March 2008 (EST)
- One other thing: I think Janitor has stopped fixing double redirects. I noticed that the list has not been touched since last week.
- I've gotten all the duplicates taken care of. There appears to be another album or something, but I haven't looked into it.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 03:27, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks for that. There was a whole list of 'dead end' songs, so now I know how the page is organized. You made things a lot easier for me.
- Ok=K, I was thinking about this: Other Songs are still floating around. I found the 'Uncategorized pages' special page and had a idea. Other Songs all do not have a category, so any Other Song page is on this list. Can you send Janitor marching through there, and replace any linked Other Songs sections with the new black header? That will deposit all Other Songs pages to Orphaned pages, where I will be able to quickly delete each.
- Pardon me if I am not making sense, as I was trying to sleep, and this idea was keeping me awake.
- Lastly, if you don't want to have to worry about the mix of pages to be reformatted and not, I can prepare a list of artists that need the treatment. Whichever you prefer.
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 02:33, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
- PS. Did you get that warning/flagging script working for Janitor that we were cooking up?
- PPS. If it's that second option you need, I ripped up an example list at User:Kingnee1114lyrics/Sandbox/Othersongsproject.
- Okay, I see what you mean with the special page. I'll get to is shortly. As to the flagging script, I added code to the ophan page handling script to keep track of the last 3 runs, but I had a bug so it wasn't actually keeping the last three. It is fixed now and as soon as I have some usable data, I will add the flagging code.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 03:03, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
- Thumbs up on the expediency. Now we will be fully rid of 'Other Songs'. \me cracks knuckles and prepares for continuing the mass deletion.
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 02:32, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
- One thing: Don't delete that script. I overlooked a bunch of Other Songs pages that had an updated template on them, seen here at Category:Requests_For_Deletion/Other_Songs_pages. What I want to do is go through the ones we have now, and then when I am ready, just delete the category stuff from the template, and have you re-run the script. Thanks. (I'm going to go toy around with the new functionality of [[lyricwiki]] over at wikipedia now.)

Not a Big Problem, but...
Hey, I just thought I'd give you a little tap on the shoulder. When Janitor comes across orphaned songs with a special character in the title, it replaces it with the html code. For example, it created "Weird Al" Yankovic this morning, though I already deleted it (it's weird that it isn't in the deletion history, though). Anyway, I know Überbot used to have a problem with this too, so Sean might have a fix for it. I just thought I'd let you know Janitor was doing this. --WillMak050389 12:20, 7 March 2008 (EST)

- The first part is a bit strange... I'll look into that as soon as I have time.
- The second part is the correct behavior. Songs, artist, albums, etc. that start with "The" should not use T as the first letter. I wish I had a link to policy on this, but I don't really have time to go digging for it. (Schoolwork is a bit heavy right now)
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 13:14, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

- Uh oh, we have some conflict here. I had been going with the 'First Letter' standard for a long time, and just happened to notice that a new song template skipped a 'the'. I haven't been able to really find documentation not saying 'the' is fletter = T.
- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 16:37, 11 April 2008 (EDT)
- It should probably be more detailed, I suppose, but on the SongFooter template page and other places where fLetter is mentioned, it does say initial letter, with no exclusions given for The, A, or An, and on Help:Contents/Editing/Formatting/Artists#Artist_Template, it is specific that these should still be used for determining fLetter. - Confusing. I wish I could remember what the page that holds the newsong template. It could explain a few things. So is this a soft open for a new way of categorizing songs? I understand the pros of this, but how far does this go? So far, only 'the' works for newsong, not 'a' or 'los' or anything like that.

I have a request for another Janitor script, but I wanted to make sure that you are out of the woods with finals and what-have-you.
So here's the idea: Song pages on Special:Uncategorizedpages would all need a {{SongFooter}} at the bottom, and currently there are a lot of these. It'd be a lot of simple repetition, doing this by hand. If you do, could you filter the pages so Janitor would only add a footer on pages with both <lyric> and </lyric> (or <lyrics> and </lyrics>), as well as only 0 (zero) through L? I am still working on the other half of the alphabet with related projects. Thanks.

- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 00:51, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Janitor and artist redirection
Hi, teknomunk, I'm little confused about bot behaviour while adding songs to OS. Does it take into consideration artist redirection? Take a look at Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds page, where most of songs in a huge OS list belong to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. But Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is redirected to Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. Considering this redirection, most of songs bot added to OS are unsplitted into albums already and should not appear in OS. If bot is unable to take into account redirection, then maybe batch move should be made for all such duplikated songs? Thanks, --Senvaikis 02:18, 17 June 2008 (EDT)
- You may not satisfy all our wishes (may be they are stupid enough), but don't you think it would be more decent to drop at least a short answer to request? Sulky Senvaikis (talk) 17:05, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- Sorry, I should have at least acknoledged this.
- The thing is that I originally wrote the bot script to do a single task, add all songs that are not attached to a page to the associated artist page. Later I added the artist redirection thing so that redirect pages did not have songs added to them. The purpose behind this was to expose these pages to users and allow them to be sorted/edited/redirect/whatever by a human instead of languishing on a 'List of pages not attached to anything else' page.
- I don't think I will be adding anything to try and detect duplicate songs and redirect them. There are too many variables to do it accurately across all pages. It also detracts from what the script was intended to do.
- I know that people may not enjoy having a huge list of songs being added to the artist page and many times they will just delete the links instead of actually fixing the source of the problem, duplicate pages, but I think it is the about the best that can be done.

Hey Dude, how's it goin'? I was just looking at the Main page and noticed that some artists (and therefore songs) don't appear right because iTunes lists them with ['s and ]'s in the title. Is there anyway you could upgrade your XML parser to transform them into ('s and )'s before making links out of them? - Actually this functionality is already on the server, but not in the XML parser. {{#sterilizeTitle}} can be used to fix titles. It uses the same process as is used to fix titles for the API. I've updated the Top 100 page already but will do Main Page later if you don't get to it first.

- Template complexity doesn't impact how long a page takes to load, it just make a page take longer to compile. MediaWiki caches pages so it doesn't have to remake them every time. Not storing these little images locally would make pages take longer. --Åqúàŧĩkī - É - Ŧ 22:56, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

When I asked you to run the other songs script the second time, I failed to take into consideration the fact that those pages did not realize they were uncategorized. So, I would ask that you run it again. There should be more in the Special:Uncategorizedpages list, but I think they will appear later, with BotUm updating each page as he is. Thanks

Janitor funkiness
Can you take a look at [1] when you get a chance? Janitor slapped some new Other Songs on the page and basically over-wrote some album info and loved it so much that it did it in two places. I looked at a few pages, and I didn't notice any other craziness, so it may be a fluke, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention. Kiefer talk contribs admin 23:00, 13 July 2008 (EDT)

- Okay, fine, that's messed up, but not because of Janitor! Grrrr. That's weird, because the history doesn't have that %3F business. The Hall & Oates link for that has a question mark where the %3F is. It shows up in the link preview in the bottom left corner in Firefox as a ?, but then isn't in the title on the resulting page. That just ain't right! I even edit the page, replacing the existing ? with a new ? to see if that will help, and nope! It still goes to the same page. - For the record, %3F is supposed to encode a "?". Not sure what that means for these pages though. I would think that it should show up in the title if it was getting interpreted correctly (like here on wikipedia), but it might be thinking that it's part of a query string like http://lyricwiki.org/api.php?artist=Shpongle

On a more serious note, yes I did notice the all important %3F (in Firefox too) and the question mark on artist page that doesn't appear on song page. *hopes Kiefer never gets to know that she was actually very remiss in not noticing that the question mark only appears against one of these two listings on the artist page before she posted this query*
Ok, so I think on this one occasion we can agree we are both right Kiefer. Note that is a statement not a question

Timed lyrics - to be or not to be
Hi, Teknomunk,
would you mind to take a look at our recent discussion with Redxx about timed lyrics (TL) (if you remember, we've been talking about that too)? It would be nice to resolve eventualy - does LW accept TL, and if it does - how it should be done? If creating wiki-style subpages for TL is unacceptable, then uploading of lrc should be reanimated; otherwise some policy of formatting should be formulated for such subpages. ...Or just officially declare TL unlawful in LW? I think Kiefer might have some ideas about that too. Tia, --Senvaikis (talk) 12:16, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
- Personally, I would like to have timed lyrics (even though my media player doesn't support them...yet). So, unless one of the other admins knows of some other problem I don't, then I think it would be okay. It is lyrics, just with some meta-data attached for a particular recodring.
- The only real problem I can think of is there is very good chance that the timed lyrics and the lyrics on the song's main page will get out of sync. I really don't have an answer to this particular problem.

Is there any way we can define a subpage to be like a talk page? If you move a page, and it has an attached talk page, it will ask you if you want to move it also. Is there any way to userdefine a page to do that?- King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 13:36, 21 July 2008 (EDT)
- Scratch that, I don't think we are going that route...
OK, I spoke too soon
What kinds of things should be on the check list for your pages? Can you seperate out by song, album and artist? Can we extrapolate to make general foreign language templates? --Aquatiki - T - E 03:38, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
- P.S. Sorry about the MediaWiki pages. I was desperately trying to get {{Navbox}} (collapsible templates) to work. I think it's the MediaWiki version number that's tripping me up. --Aquatiki - T - E 21:55, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
- No problem. If you look at the history of the page, I had the same problem (I moved the page to MediaWiki:Common.js as well). However, it appears that the scripts are still not working correctly, though I am not sure why. I think it has something to do with the system message system and possible caching, but I am not sure.
- Also, for the extra info, all I am really looking for is an parameter to allow future expansion (for example, |extra= ). I haven't put much thought into the actual items needed beyond translation/romanization. Most likely a set of language-specific templates will be created and it would be best to be able to reuse the main code without much problem (basically just passing through the standard parameters and using the |extra= field to add the language-specific parameters.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 23:44, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
- I understand that just fine, but I was hoping to avoid having to include the extra parameters in the main template. While I could probably come up with a list for Japanese songs, what about Chinese, Korean, Russian, <insert other language>? These I can't make a list for, and so would require additional edits to the main template. If there was an parameter for expansion so that specialized templates can be made for specific languages, I think that would be best. But in any case, here is a list:
- romanizedArtist
- romanizedAlbum
- romanizedSong
- JaTitle
- animeFeature
- gameFeature
- wikipediaJa
- Again, this list is just what I can think of right now, it is very likely to change in the future, and any changes to this will require the update of an untold number of pages (1.5 million job queue?), which I would like to avoid. If the language specifics can be confined to a separate template, then updates to those specifics will only trigger updates for those pages that need to be updated. And it will also avoid having to use ParserFunctions magic to make it work, just including should do the trick (maybe, I haven't tested it).

- Welllll, some of those are not applicable in a general sense. I can see the three Romans being general foreign language applicable. What is JaTitle? wikipediaJa is handled by the regular wikipedia linking, but with a jp:<<>>, right? I guess I figure animeFeature and gameFeature are like {{Cover}} or SongOfTheDay: not generally applicable and so not necessary for Gold star status. Is there a way people can check these things, or do they just have to know? Otherwise, it'd be mean to put it in the checklist!
- All that said, I will work on a Foreign Info template. --Aquatiki - T - E 01:21, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
- I would say that SOTD does not count, but {{Cover}} should, if a song is a cover, it should be marked as such, and this can be verified. As to the romans, yes they are applicable to all non-roman alphabet songs, but not the vast majority of the songs on this site (at the moment). {{JaTitle}} is a place to put a song title romanization and translation. These can be verified. wikipediaJa is just as you suspected, but it is possible that there is an entry at en.wikipedia.org as well as an entry at ja.wikipedia.org. Both should be checked for.
- As for animeFeature and gameFeature, these are similar to {{Cover}}, but these are verifiable at several places, wikipedia being one of them, but also at various anime information sites. It is actually very likely for a song to be featured in an anime, a lot of artists get their big break by being featured as the opening or closing song for an anime. And just about every good anime gets a game off-shoot of some sort.
- Sorry to be stubborn, but I would rather have this worked out now rather than down the road where the only way to correct mistakes is to to a bot edit of every page on the site, or worse, a manual edit of every page on the site.
- - teknomunk (talk,E,歌,A) 01:31, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
- Last question, before I get to work for you: do I need to make extra's for song, album and artist or would one universal template do? --Aquatiki - T - E 01:51, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
- PS I made {{Extra Info}} as a test. --Aquatiki - T - E 09:53, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

I was wondering this: I can't read this site's XML on browsers. The same thing appears again in Watchlist RSS.
I try a little bit and figure it out.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="http://lyricwiki.org/skins/common/feed.css"?>
The head of the first line has a blank space which should be deleted. After that, the browser don't show an error but a warning:
- The RSS feed is meant to be read in a syndicated news reader, and isn't ideal for web browser.
After I remove the second line(CSS), the warning disappear.
Can you make them readable on both news reader and browser? I hope this link could help.
