[edit] Parser Functions

I installed ParserFunctions and put in that cast-to-string hack that should get the "if" working . I haven't worked with #if's before so I'm not sure how to test it. Let me know if anything needs to be changed. Thanks!
- Sean Colombo 17:42, 8 June 2006 (PDT)

It can be tested by using working if it evaluates to "working" then it is functioning correctly the current status of the #if statement is working.

When I get home next week I will begin testing the templates that I would like to use.

[edit] Tips of a mannequin eater.

I understand you're in to a couple of Japanese artists/bands and just wanted to tip you off, there's a relatively large amount of lyrics back at the Cherryblossom Garden. Also, if you haven't seen it already the music video for Come Together by M.O.V.E. can be seen here.on.YouTube,
have a good ol' day mate! --Frontway 14:13, 10 August 2006 (PDT)

Thanks for the site. And as to the music video, I have seen just about every music video for the songs on the Move:Rewind (2004) cd, as I got the version with the DVD of music videos :)
And so far, the only kanji I have submitted have been copied from the CD booklet. It is a real pain to try and find a 16 stroke kanji printed at about 12pt.

[edit] Adminship

I've seen you do a lot of good work on the site for quite a while now... any interest in being an admin?
-Sean Colombo 16:27, 13 August 2006 (PDT)

I just try to do the best that I can to help.
A problem I see is that the college semester is about to begin and my time will probably be drastically reduced. I am not really sure of everything that being an admin involves, but if you are willing to let me, I will do what I can.
- Teknomunk 16:50, 13 August 2006 (PDT)
I understand, I'm heading back to college soon also. There are no official duties or anything, but you just get the privilege of deleting/protecting pages and the ability to block people. I'm glad you're up for it :)... you'll be an admin in a couple of minutes.

[edit] Your thoughts?

Hi, I'd like your thoughts on this (Google AdWords) if you get a second.
Thanks!

[edit] Song Footer

Hi! I see you've added a SongFooter template to a lot of pages (which is nice). However, I've noticed that such template will automatically add amazon links. The thing is, shouldn't said links go to searches for the Artist and the Album? Currently, they search for the Album and the Song Name -which I don't think works very well-. Is there any way to fix this (or, is this ok)? --Jorgenmz 08:17, 10 September 2006 (PDT)

This can be done easily by modifying Template:SongFooter. Using the song footer is nice because to make sweeping changes like this, changes only have to be made in one spot, the template. I will go work on that as soon as I am finished here.
- Teknomunk 11:41, 10 September 2006 (PDT)
oohh I see. Thank you! --Jorgenmz 07:32, 11 September 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Song Language

Hey there. I just wonder, whether it's useful to add the Language to every single Song. The list will get pretty overloaded, imho. I mean, wouldn't it be better when just adding the language to the artist alone? Just curious, socke. - Socke 14:33, 3 October 2006 (PDT)

Well, some artists, such as Yuki Kajiura have songs in English, Japanese and Italian, whereas she is a Japanese person. The list will get long and will be a little cluttered, just like other categories such as Category:Songs_A. However, I don't know of a better solution at this time. Any ideas would be appreciated.
- Teknomunk 14:40, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, I also thought about that. Well, okay. What would it be like just tagging songs that are not in the artist's native language with that? The artist himself gets the tag of his native (singing) language and all other songs that doesn't fit to this get an extra tag. That would maybe reduce it, since there aren't that much artists (or even songs by artists) that are in another language, I'd say.

[edit] New Main Page

Yeah, I think we should push the new main-page out to the world ASAP. What do we still need to do before the launch? Since you have one nomination already, we'd techincally have a week to update other things (I could put the überscript together pretty fast this weekend... really busy tonight/this-morning though). Now that I'm out of school, I'm in a bit of a furied pace to finish Pedlr (upcoming site) before I run out of money... but I'm still here for LyricWiki 24/7, so whatever we need to do to get that page up, I'm game.
Let me know,
-Sean Colombo 22:51, 1 November 2006 (PST)

I could probably put it up now, everything except for the Album of the Week nominations is done. I am just concerned that if it was put up without several nominations for Album of the Week that I would end up writing junk to fill up that spot, and I don't want to writing poor nominations.
The iTunes feed could probably fail better than an empty box when it is not able to connect to Apple's servers. It turns into an empty box. It would be better to have something that says something like "Sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable." But other than that, it appears to be ready. There are no glaring design problems, though.
If you want me to, I am probably able to write the script myself, I just don't know how to interface to MediaWiki. I need to learn that anyways.
I am pretty busy myself until the weekend, I just want to get ball rolling.
- Teknomunk 07:30, 2 November 2006 (PST)
Wow, this server is horrible, it took me like 4 requests to get this page. Anywho...
I finished the AOTW nomination, and I changed the iTunes thing to cache the results for a day. (If there is a failed attempt, it gets the cached value instead. At any point if there is a successful request and the cache is more than a day old, it will update the cache.)
I was thinking about the AOTW script, and it seems like it will be a pretty easy change. The only thing that would really take any new code would be finding the album art automatically from the page (and even that is pretty straightforward). Before I start messing with that (since the bot makes about 4 or 5 page requests per update), I'm going to wait 'till I hear back from DreamHost... I asked them if there was anything they could do to fix the reliability of the servers. Failure rate is above 1/3 right now it should be closer to 1/99 imo.
Reliability aside... I think the main page is ready to rock now (if the server heals, the AOTW script could easily be done and tested in an hour or two). You and Frontway have done an amazing job on the new layout, and I think the world is gonna love it!
Thanks for all the hard work,
-Sean Colombo 10:57, 2 November 2006 (PST)
I just moved it over to Main Page, so it's up! The new page likely will increase the stress on the server, as it has more images than the old one.
I will probably need to move a few of the pages around, as MediaWiki:* pages cannot be protected, and I don't want spammers and vandals to be able to deface the main page.

[edit] Spanish Main Page and iTunes

Hi! I just can't discover why iTunes Top Songs don't appear in the Spanish main Page... the iTunes part of the page it's common for all languages... Any ideas?? Thanks!! --Unaiaia 18:19, 11 November 2006 (EST)

I can't seem to get it to reproduce the problem. Is it still not working? I purged the cache, but that is all I can think of doing?
- teknomunk 18:25, 11 November 2006 (EST)
:O I swear i tried many times before asking, but now i can see it too!! I looked at English and JP, and it showed... Spanish... nothing!!!! And now it does... well, ok no problem then. Have a good time :D --Unaiaia 18:27, 11 November 2006 (EST)
The MediaWiki software keeps a cache of pages to reduce the server load. What may have happened is that it generated the page incorrectly and then cached that. Then when the cache expired/was invalidated, it regenerated the page correctly. If it happens again, you can purge the page by pointing your browser at http://www.lyricwiki.org/index.php?title=Main_Page/es&action=purge.

[edit] LOL Delete template

LOL, ok that was a good idea :P. I marked all this because they are already created as Ill Niño:... One more thing i learnt in wikipedia, i think it may be useful. When answering someone that writes in your discussion it's better if you answer in his discusion page with a Re:Topic message, because the software warns you when someone writes in your discussion (at least in the wikipedia) so you don't miss the answers. See You!! --Unaiaia 18:51, 11 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Thanks

I just wanted to thank you for formatting Disciple:God Of Elijah, which I nominated for SOTD. I'm kinda new at this, so I'm still trying to figure everything out, but now I know what's correct formatting for a song. I've been using Pink Floyd for my albums and artists formatting as they seem to be pretty popular here, and will therefore be updated and formatted correctly quickly. If you have any other tips for a beginner, please inform me. I've done a lot of editing for albums on Wikipedia, and this is a little different, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks again! --WillMak050389 17:18, 13 November 2006 (EST)

User:Janitor is a bot now... thanx! (sorry it took so long, the wiki didn't send me a notification that my talk page changed at all). Laters -Sean Colombo 02:34, 19 November 2006 (EST)
