[edit] Song Titles in Japanese
If a title has kanji (only), what is the standard? Use romanji, translate, leave original or some combination? Example: 天体観測, someone has set this up to redirect to Tentaikansoku. If this has not already been discussed, I think that the song page names should be the same as they are on the artist CD and then on the song page a romanization and translation should be provided. But this does kind of go away from the standard for artist pages with Japanese names, maybe it would be better to match that being KANJI_(ROMANJI) for the main page? -YukataNinja 22:37, 17 March 2007 (EDT)
- This has not been discussed yet. For artist, we use the 漢字_(romanji) format but for song titles, nothing has been decided. I personally would like for the kanji to be used, but I want the romanji to be available for people who cannot read Japanese (yet). Using the same format for kanji-containing titles should work fine.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 22:52, 17 March 2007 (EDT)
- By the way, I was the one responsible for that particular redirect.
- Is there a possibility of having the Romaji when the mouse hovers over the title? I'm guessing that might be a tough job, but it might be a good idea.
- Also, I didn't really format my titles as 漢字ひらがな_(romaji) because I thought that if there was a very long title, then the page title would be about twice the length. And I was trying to keep it as original as possible.
- But I agree that romaji should be available for those that cannot read Japanese (yet). Maybe we could have a line just below the title that contains the romaji? I think this might be a good idea, if we can do it.
- -BryghtShadow 06:45, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
- There is {{abbr}} that does this: 漢字. I think that the origional post had more to do with the actual page title of the song and not the link. For the links, I generally out the romanization and an English translation of the title after the kanji version (in parenthesis) to make it easy to find the right song.

[edit] Useful website(s)
Hi Teknomunk,
I just found this online program. It's called Ajax IME: Web-based Japanese Input Method. It's very useful for people like myself who want to type lyrics and things in Japanese, but can't just because their computer may not have the program to, or they may not have much knowledge on how to use IME codings and so forth.
So to make things short, this is a recommended place to go to for Japanese inputs.
- White Shadow 01:30, 27 February 2007 (EST)
- Thanks, I will use that when I am away from my computer.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 22:13, 28 February 2007 (EST)
Another useful site for Japanese-English and vice versa, Japanese-Korean and vice versa, Japanese-Chinese and vice versa, is Excite.
It is pretty useful for whole pages of translation, although it may not be 'kanpeki' i.e. perfect in translation, but I think it's pretty good.
-BryghtShadow 06:55, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
ところで (by the way), White Shadow is now known as BryghtShadow. In other words they are the same person. :)
- I've always been a fan of babelfish for automated translations, but although it does do a terrible job, it gives me a starting point.
- I noticed that a while ago on you last.fm page.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 09:45, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks for the link. XD. I'll add that to my useful resources section.

[edit] fLetter = ?
I was wondering about what to put instead of a 'questionmark' in the 'fLetter=?' bit. Am I supposed to leave it as Symbol (default for Non-English titles), or should I change it to the first letter of the Romaji title? - BryghtShadow 10:54, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
- I always put the first letter of the romanized title. For that matter, I add the romanized versions of the song, artist and album to the song footer as romanizedSong, romanizedArtist, and romanizedAlbum respectivly. I have had thoughts of adding a fLetterJp=か or similar and have Japanese sort order, but I never really got around to it.

- Oh, ok, cool. ありがとう。 -- BryghtShadow 12:45, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Another issue is with English song titles but those that begin with a small letter of the alphabet. Should I change them from 'fLetter=Symbol' to 'fLetter=<<the letter it begins with>>? I strongly believe that it should but I just need some advice on this. - BryghtShadow 04:07, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
- You should use the capital letter for the fLetter paramter. In addition, the song page should be moved to have the first letter of every word capitalized and a {{WrongTitle}} added to the page.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 11:47, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Hey, I did some fLetter work on Albums by Gackt, I noticed some albums had Japanese character. I put the fLetter as the first English (Romanized?) letter. Is this right, I don't want to step on your tooes regarding the Japanese stuff (since I know no Japanese at all) see this for example: Gackt:Kimi_Ga_Oikaketa_Yume_(2003). Thanks!
--Jeff Saul (talk,contrib,E) 11:04, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
- That's what I do, use the first letter of the romanized title for the fLetter. Right now there is no fLetter parameter for the Japanese first letter (such as あ,り,す,etc.), so that's what I do for now.

[edit] SPAM!
Holy Spinal Tap!!! That's a lot of evil spamming. One IP address hit 3 pages this morning. I'll likely not be on until much later in the day, so...tag, you're it. I've been marking the pages as having been patrolled so you'll know which ones I've checked. --Kiefer 07:52, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
- Looks like we've slammed the deletion list pretty well. I'm thrilled that the spambots have been banished. I have a question for you...since the spam blocker seems to be doing its job, do you think we should unblock all those infinitely-blocked IP addresses? Does it matter?
- PS: I'm having a problem with the editor's buttons not appearing. I think that they appear after the ads, and the ads don't seem to be working for me currently. Do you have the same problem? --Kiefer 00:59, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- It probably doesn't matter that the IPs are blocked, it will give us, however minimal, a little protection from the spambots.
- As to the editor buttons, I don't seem to be having any problems, but I had to go and test it as I never use them; I prefer to type things out rather than use the mouse. If you are using Firefox and have extensions like AdBlock, NoScript or something similar that disables Javascript, make sure that they allow this site to function properly.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 01:03, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- They normally show up (except on new pages with the auto-templates), but when the ads don't show up, the buttons don't appear either. Plus opening pages go slower, too. It was fine earlier tonight, but the ads and buttons stopped appearing towards the end of the deletions. It almost seems as though when I've been on for a while and have opened a bunch of pages, the ads don't connect and I'm in constant limbo as the page waits to load the ad. Ah well. I guess I'm the 'lucky' one. No problem. I'm off for a bit, anyhow! Adios! --Kiefer 01:10, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- I've had something similar happen. The page loads correctly from the server, but only the title is displayed. When that happens, it looks like there is a <script> tag that is not closed properly, which eats up the rest of the page (the ads, the page content, the navigation, everything). Other than than, I haven't had any problems recently.
- Well, I should be going to sleep myself; I have two finals tomorrow XP

[edit] Template:Track
What's the status of this template? I'm curious, because it appears that Attendant has incorporated this into the latest edition of the autogenerator. (Bad pagename autogenerator, usually. :-p) I'm a little unnerved by that, as it isn't our standard format. Thanks ----Kiefer <img src="/images/5/58/KieferE.jpg" alt="Esperanza" /> <img src="/images/f/f9/KieferTalk.jpg" alt="Talk!" /> 09:44, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
- Currently nothing is being done with it. If I remember correctly, it was mostly just an experiment.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 11:11, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
- So what do you think about the autogenerator using it? It appears to work fine, but deciphering the pages is a little difficult. I don't know whether to say something to Attendant or not. ??? ----Kiefer <img src="/images/5/58/KieferE.jpg" alt="Esperanza" /> <img src="/images/f/f9/KieferTalk.jpg" alt="Talk!" /> 11:18, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
[edit] JASRAC
Hello, I found this great site just a few days ago. I'm interested in working on Japanese songs. So I want to discuss this issue, since it could lead to some problems. JASRAC (JASRAC on Wikipedia) is a copyright administration society. Like RIAA, JASRAC targets any music-related distribution without their permission. More than file-sharing, JASRAC also says providing lyrics on the Internet without their permission is illegal. Most major Japanese lyric sites will put an icon says they are licensed by JASRAC, e.g. Utamap and Uta-Net. I am not sure if putting lyrics on the Internet always need to pay to JASRAC. When we get more and more Japanese lyrics here, someday JASRAC will find this site and what will happen? Will JASRAC ask LyricWiki.org to remove all the lyrics under their administration? And what will LyricWiki.org do? -Fujirou 14 May 2007
- Ideally we would like to license the lyrics as we want to be as legal as is possible. If any use of publishing lyrics on the internet need to be licensed, then a lyrics database surely is included. I just don't know to whom or how much, etc., will need to be paid to get a license, and then I don't know how the site finances are currently, you would have to talk to Sean about that.
- As the site continues to grow, I am sure that this will be more and more of an issue and will need to be resolved, preferably soon.

[edit] LyricWiki:Japan
I just wanted to let you know that I think the addition of this group is a great thing. It appears from the number of Japanese-only editors that this is a popular and important part of the site, and getting everyone together on the same page is certainly necessary at this point. So, yay to Dad for the wifi! ----Kiefer <img src="/images/5/58/KieferE.jpg" alt="Esperanza" /> <img src="/images/f/f9/KieferTalk.jpg" alt="Talk!" /> 16:47, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
- Yes, you can't get rid of me that easily. If I didn't get the card, I would have been using my dad's laptop (it has wifi) or go to the library to get internet access.
- I've been wanting to start a group for Japanese basically since I've been here, but I was painfully aware that we didn't have the population to support it. Now is different, we may have the population to support it. And as I said before, I'm here to stay.
- As to the popularity of the Japanese sections, see this => google:mell proof lyrics, we're the second result.

[edit] Lyric or Lyrics
Some songs have the tag <lyric> </lyric> and some have the tag <lyrics> </lyrics> - Which one do I choose and which one needs editing? - BryghtShadow 00:58, 24 May 2007 (EDT)
- Either is fine, the use the exact same code. Which one you use is just preference. I think that there are enough songs using each that choosing one or the other would be a rather large ordeal.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 01:01, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Extremely Long Pages
As you know, I've been putting my attention mainly on the Koda Kumi page, and now it's grown so huge that I've got a 32KB warning. With or without that, the page is still horrendously long, so I wrote to ask if there is some way the problem can be fixed without breaking any policies. In fact, as far as I know, the policies kinda complicates matters since they want all the albums and singles there... So is there any way I can shorten the page? — 0612 (TALK); Posted: 10:12, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
- Generally what is done with long pages is to remove the singles from the page and have just a list of the singles' pages at the bottom after the last album (see GLAY#Singles for an example)
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 10:17, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
- Awsome! Just happened to have a similar problem with 中島みゆき (Miyuki Nakajima). 34-plus albums is a lot and to add a further 10-plus singles, not to mention other albums will definitely exceed 32KB. Thanks heaps for the help.

Dream needs to be removed. I marked it for deletion (after a few unsuccessful tries, and still not successful). There are 2 artists who go by the name Dream; Dream(JP) has a page, but Dream(US) doesn't - it only links to the page I marked for deletion. --BryghtShadow 12:03, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Translation of French for Ali Project:Après Le Noir
I wasn't sure how to format the English translation of the French within the article, so here is a list of the French parts of the song with the translations after each one.
Après Le Noir = After The Black Chéri, mon amour = Darling, my love Tu vois lumière = You see light Que fais l'amour = What does love do? Je t'aime, je t'aime = I love you, I love you Je vois noir = I see black Que fais la vie = What does life do? Que fais l'amour, et que fais la vie = What does love do, and what does life do?
Hope that helps! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Carolyn81 (talk • contribs) .

- Ack, sorry about all of my n00bish mistakes! It's been a while since I've done wiki editing. Anyway, thanks for the tips on how to format song pages with translations. I added a translation of the French in another Ali Project song (I think the Romanization of the Kanji was "Mayu") so I'll fix up the formatting and stuff if you haven't seen that yet.
- By the way, I posted a question in the Community Portal about albums with alternate releases in different countries: (clicky). There's no rush in answering it, but I thought I'd mention it so you know it's there.

Long time since I've been active. How is the progress for the bot that I was thinking about? Θ Sean gorter Θtalk|Esperanza 04:31, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
- From what I remember, I really couldn't find a good way to make the bot make suggestions. Right now I generally just monitor the Recent changes rss feed and look for anything Japanese. An alternative to this is just pick a category and start working on it. But anyway, sorry, I probably won't be able to make it and I was probably a little too enthusiastic with wanting to code. I think I will wait until we get the server software upgraded before I try and do anything with it though. If/when I get the rss feed reader to parser {{#if:}} statements, I will talk to Sean about getting the title formatting function used with the SOAP interface exposed as a function.
