[edit] Template:IncludeAlbum
This is being used on The Pillows and has some issues with spacing and links to songs without lyrics yet. Was wondering what the plans for this experimental template were?-YukataNinja 00:57, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
- There aren't really any plans for it, it was just me trying to find a way to have the track listing on the artist page and the album pages be the same. There were a few people that showed a little bit of interest in it, but for the most part, it is just me playing around.
- I went ahead and fixed (alt least I think I did) the spacing problems. But if these templates become too much of a problem, I will remove them.

[edit] Note About Experimental Templates
The experimental templates Template:IncludeAlbum, Template:IncludeOtherSongs and Template:AlbumPage are my attempts to make editing artist and albums easier. I see this as fixing the problem with track listings on the artist page, but having no page for each album. This provides a convient way to keep the track list for each album in one place. For albums that do not have album art uploaded, this also creates uses placeholder cover image and allows for easy upload of the cover, which is used on both the artist and album page without modifying the wikitext.
Originaly this idea was presented on Uberbot's page. I create a template based on Frontway's Template:Track List. That template has the problem of messing up MediaWiki's handling of sectional edits. I had to shoehorn in support for multiple discs for Move and it made the code very difficult. Therefore, I have settled on having a |tracks= section to list all the albums tracks and discs.
Currently, the problem I have is that is unaware of the AlbumPage template creates an album page that is included, it messes up very badly. Also, using this template increases the server load when the page is not in the cache and has to be regenerated.
I just thought it would be a good idea to let people know what is going on with this. For the time being, please use the official styling guide and not this until it gets more mature.

- Wow, that's really cool. Once this works it'll make the site a lot more consistent. I'm a bit confused at the moment as to which templates are to be used where and which are for automatic inclusion only, but overall I must say it looks very good. I'll try to understand how it works exactly and give you useful feedback. In the mean time, if you need any help, just call me.
- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mischko (talk) .
- In case anyone else comes across this, the only template that involve automatic inclusion are Template:IncludeAlbum, Template:IncludeOtherSongs and Template:AlbumPage.

[edit] Giving credit to romanizations take from other sites
Hi again. I noticed that an anonymous user added a romanji version of Puffy AmiYumi's Pure Tears are not Enough. However, on investigation I found them copied from this "mirror" webpage: http://www.geocities.com/ojochan/Puffy/fever.html#05 (http://www.corichan.com/ is the main domain, by the same person.)
The person who did the romanizing does not mind it being posted to other sites, but credit MUST be given. http://www.corichan.com/kariru.html If there isn't a way to go about crediting romanji here (I'm too green to know,) I plan to remove them. Since you deal with the Japanese section a lot, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. (Especially for future reference.)
- Liashi 17:57, 20 February 2007 (EST)
- This is the first time the issue has been brought up. If needed, it can be re-romanized one kanji are available. I haven't had this problem as I prefer kanji to romanized versions of songs. I also avoid other people's English translations and romanizations alike, to avoid crediting problems, and because they often have flaws in them. It does look like Cori does a good job, I think I may have seen lyrics by him before.
- I probably should not make a decision on policy for this; policy should be discussed by the community. In this case, I just went and found kanji for the song and romanized that as best as I could. There may be errors, but it should be safe from any problems.
- Okay. Thanks.

[edit] LyricWiki Discovery
I just found it funny that I found LyricWiki in the exact same manner, through the Amarok plugin. I hate the default one (Lyrc) and installed the LyricWiki one and as they say, the rest it history. :) Sarcasticswede | Talk e 23:12, 2 March 2007 (EST)
- I was rather new to Linux at that time (about 2 months, just did the harddrive install instead of using a Live CD). I am not sure exactly how I happened to see this site, I think that I it might have been on the KDE apps site that I saw the plugin. Later I came back and found that the site had almost no Japanese lyrics :P I stuck around long enough and messed with enough things that eventually I was asked to be an admin here.

[edit] Special Characters
About which songs display wrong I have this example: León Gieco:En El País De La Libertad using LyricWiki v2.0 for Amarok in Ubuntu. One detail is that the plugin asks for QtRuby (Optional) and I don't have it. I don't think this is the reason why the characters as "ñ" or accented vowels are wrongly displayed, but who knows.
--Cedriczg (talk) 14:59, 3 March 2007 (EST)
- Well, I have just installed the Wiki-Lyrics v0.9.2 plugin for Amarok and it seems now the characters are correctly displayed. I also installed the libqt0-ruby1.8 (4:3.5.2-0ubuntu2) respository. I don't know which one of those changes made it work. But the important thing is that it is running well right now :)
- --Cedriczg 15:19, 3 March 2007 (EST)
- I looked into it and it looks like v2.0 uses the SOAP service while prior versions use screen-scraping. For some reason SOAP, ruby and special characters don't mix. This is a know problems with our SOAP service and we have made attempts to fix this in the past. And QtRuby is just for the GUIs, so it should not have anything to do with the problems described.

That would be nice. I figure I was going to ask something about it anyways in the future, LOL! I'm just trying to see what I can and can't contribute with, but hey, like anything else, every little help counts, right? -- Khluvr621 02:34, 14 March 2007 (EDT)
[edit] ???
What do you make of this? --Kiefer 22:53, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
- Looks like link spam. It is done to try and push a site up search engine rankings. The garbled text is there to try and get past spam filters.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 22:58, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
- Look at this guy, too: User talk:87.118.98.9. As soon as the one month block was off, SPAM SPAM SPAM. This time I made it infinite. The spammers are strong today. I think perhaps my page was attacked on purpose since I'm blocking their IP addresses. I wonder what circle of hell Dante would have assigned spammers to? *grrrrr* --Kiefer 23:01, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
- Probably any where they would stop bothering him XD
- On a more serious note:
- For this particular spammer, blocking him is probably enough. However, there are some more clever, or so they think, spammers that plague this site. The only way I see that we would be able to block them is to have a fully functioning spam regex.
- I have talked to Sean about this once already and it had some effect. We may need to tweak the filter to get better results. Access to the spam regex is, as it should be, restricted to a very small number of trusted people (i.e. Sean only) as it has very sweeping effects on the operation of the site.
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 23:19, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
- Ha! Good answer. *Satan666, do you have ErE<TI|e Pr0B|Ems? Try V|@GR@!!!!!
- A few spammers lately are repeaters, though. I wonder if the spammer(s) have a more limited IP selection than we think. At the very least, I slam a WarnUser on their pages when I catch them, along with a watch so that any deletions of notices will show. That way, at least the numbers are tagged in case of repeat use. The repeat numbers are obvious problems that can be blocked, at least. It's mostly an annoyance, admittedly, since very rarely is anything deleted, and few people see the spam besides us, but I know it's a "give an inch, they'll take a mile" kind of thing and vigilance is necessary to prevent further abuses. So I'll gladly tilt at windmills!
- Okay, I've now used two literary references. My high school English teachers would be proud!
- --Kiefer 23:34, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
- As far as I know, there are two (maybe three) methods that these spammers could be using, the most obvious are botnets and open proxies. These can be handled by blocking the affected IPs, although it would take a while to get all of them. The third is spoofed IP addresses, but I am not sure how viable that is for TCP/IP, but would give an unlimited number of IP addresses.
- The other thing I have noticed is that the spammers usually come from East Asia (India, China, Korea). At least according to the ip locator service that I use. (There are some really cool toys out there :P )
- But I will start marking/blocking spammer IP addresses as well. Hopefully this will put a (unfortunatly, small) dent in the problem.

Hey, noticed we are both adding kanji to do as infinity right now. Are you getting lyrics from uta-net.com? -YukataNinja 23:52, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
- No, I found some Chinese site that has a bunch of kanji for Japanese songs and I generally use that.

[edit] Wiki.ThePPN
Hey, i was wondering if there has been any thought to trying to collaborate with http://wiki.theppn.org/Main_Page, they have some decent info on Asian musicians and even some translations.(YukataNinja 15:41, 28 March 2007 (EDT))
- I didn't even know that they existed. I looked at it briefly and noticed that many (possibly most, I didn't check) of the songs listed there have only the romanization of the original lyrics. One of the reasons I contribute here is that most English-language interface Japanese lyrics have the lyrics only available romanized.
- When I have more time I will discuss this more, as I am inbetween classes now. But I would like to see collaberation occur (with us having the lyrics, of course).
- - teknomunk (talk,E) 16:04, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
- I did a little more looking at the wiki and found that for certain there are no lyrics in Kanji. There are about 1700 pages with lyrics. And I could not find any information on lyrics policy.
- If you want to extend an offer to them, by all means do so, just make certain that you are very polite in doing so. Particulary, I would like to see us serving lyrics to them.

[edit] Possible work for Janitor
Someone found that a typo of the word "instrumental" was spelled as "instumental" on apparently a bunch of pages (convo here). Janitor appears to still be pretty active, so I thought that might be a good thing for him to catch while he's making the rounds (if you have time to code that in there).
Later,
-Sean Colombo 12:58, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
- Well, using the search, I couldn't find any articles that contain 'instumental', I think that they have all been fixed. However there are many songs that contain the following code:
<lyric> </lyric> [Instrumental]
- When I have time (probably sometime later today, I have to leave for class in 10 minutes) I will write a script to fix the above code.

[edit] Spammers
I saw something interesting today that I'd thought I'd share. I caught this guy spamming before, and then recently he has created a blank lyric page and an album page with no input - just the automatically inputted template that Sean started. I wonder if the new auto templates for new pages are messing up the spammers? That would be great, except now they're creating blank pages which are harder to spot. I guess I'll have to sort out the signed-in users from the Recent Changes page on occasion. Do you know about the patrolled function? I think it's something to do with letting each other know that we've already checked that page for vandalism/spamming, but I'm not sure. Perhaps that's something we need to do. --Kiefer 14:32, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
- I remember seeing something about patrolling when it was first enable here, but I can't seem to find where to mark an article as patrolled. There is some information about patrolling over at Meta.
- Another option is to discard any page submition that is exactly the same as the autogenerated page.

[edit] If you have a few seconds
Can you look at broken redirects? I've been trying to fix all of these. I don't know much about Japanese lyrics, and many of them look to be Japanese (possibly Chinese or Korean) and some were made by you. If you have some time, could you try to fix some of them? Thanks! --WillMak050389 11:47, 14 April 2007 (EDT)
